Happiness is a state of mind, and there are really only a few things I do to stay happy. What I am doing right now to create happiness is training for a sprint triathlon with my daughter-in-law, Sarah. Six months ago, she asked me to do it with her and I decided to stretch myself and go for it. The sprint is a 1/3 mile swim in a lake, 12 mile bike ride, and a 3 mile run.
It has been a lot of work, but I am having so much fun. I do not always feel like doing the training, but I want to do well, so that keeps me motivated. I have met some nice people along the way who have helped me train and that alone has been worth the journey. I feel good every time I finish a workout.
It has been a way for me to stay connected to Sarah, even though she lives over 900 miles away. Staying connected to the people that I love is one of the keys to being happy. I am also staying active exercising, which is another vital key. Health is important to me and this has been an important ingredient in achieving that goal.
The event is in two weeks, and I am ready. I can hardly wait to see my family and I know they will be cheering Sarah and me on as we do the event. It will be something we will share and remember for the rest of our lives. I am hoping my grand daughter will join us in a couple of years when she gets older and we can make it a three generation event.
Even though I am 63 ,I feel better than I ever have and even though it is hard sometimes to continue to stretch myself, my prayer is to always be grateful for every day and live my life to its fullest.
